What’s New
The season is fast approaching, and we want to wish all of you every success in your competitions.
Please remember though that success should NOT be associated with a prize.
Many times I thought I played really well, only to get nothing … and other times when I felt the play was just “okay” I ended up winning.
So, as the awarding of the prizes is out of your hands, you need to focus on those aspects that you have some control over – for example:
- Making sure your bagpipe is properly tuned before you start to play
- Making sure you have warmed your pipe up enough (in front of the judge) so you bagpipe stays in tune throughout your performance
- Playing your music at the desired tempo – ie at a tempo that allows you to play at your cleanest and with the best chance of technical success
- Playing all the way through the performance without any note errors
- Making as much of your technique as cleanly as possible, and with the correct sound
- Understanding that you will have some inconsistencies in your playing, which is reflective of the grade you are at. And, if that happens (ie you miss a technical movement) you don’t allow it to throw you off your tune or cause you to have additional issues
- And, most importantly, coming off the platform after competing feeling that you did your best and you had some fun in the process
