Summer Courses
In the summer (May to August) students are invited to come to London, Ontario for a week (Monday to Friday) of private tuition with John. Using their existing repertoire, the focus during this course will be to improve the student’s ability to:
- Set up and tune their bagpipe
- Improve their tone when playing their bagpipe
- Play the technique in their music at a higher standard
- Enhance their musicality and expression
Accommodation, meals and travel arrangements, and all associated costs are the responsibility of the student.
Typically, students will fly into London (or Detroit/Toronto – if this is less expensive), rent a car for the week and stay in the University of Western Ontario dorms (www.uwo.ca) which is a 5 to 10 minute drive from John’s business.
Students will receive a 1-hour lesson in the morning and another 1-hour lesson in the afternoon each day (10 lessons during the week). They will also be put on a structured practice program, where they are required to practice at least one hour during the day and another hour at night.
Many students who come in the summer, try to plan their trip so that they can participate in one of the Ontario Highland Games – i.e. that fall on the weekend before and/or after their course. Additionally, if the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band is practicing that week, students will be invited to attend.
If you are interested in making arrangements for a summer course, please contact John directly at info@bagpipesolutions.com to discuss course fees and availability.
