Workshop Examples
An example of the subjects that John can teach at your Pipe Band Workshop include:
- Improving the tonal quality and stability of the band
- Improving the tuning efficiency of individuals and the band itself
- Improving the ability for each piper to set up their bagpipe and work with their drone and pipe chanter reeds
- Pipe band techniques (i.e. attacks and cut-offs)
- An evaluation of the music you are playing, including offering suggestions for constructing a medley, making the transitions from tune to tune, adding harmonies, etc.
- The unison playing within the pipe section
- The expression of the pipe music
- The ensemble within the band itself
An example of the subjects that John can teach at your Piobaireachd Seminar include:
- An introduction to Piobaireachd for new players,
- Improving the student’s understanding of Piobaireachd itself and how to properly present a tune
- Improving the student’s ability to play the technical requirements found in the Piobaireachd movements
- Teaching new tunes to the students
- Teaching the annual Piobaireachd Society set tunes

- Improving the student’s understanding of how to properly add expression into the various types of bagpipe music
- Improving the student’s ability to play the technical requirements found in the bagpipe music
- Teaching new tunes to the students

- Helping each piper to learn how to properly set up their bagpipe and work with their drone and pipe chanter reeds
- Tips on how to prepare each player to be successful when competing
- Offering private lessons to the students to work on applying what was taught during the clinic to their own playing
